Parish ministries. (Reader, Eucharistic Minister, Welcome, Server, Flowers and Environment, Music etc.)
An examination of roles and how they can best be undertaken.
Practical issues within the parish.
Group discussion.

 

 

LENT  AND TRIDUUM
A 2 week parish renewal.

 

Week 1
The history and development of Lenten traditions and liturgies.
Reflection (images and music).

Week 2
The Great Week.
Focusing on how we should celebrate these liturgies,
with particular emphasis on the Triduum.

 

 

 

 

INTRODUCTION TO LITURGY

 

What is Liturgy?
A down-to-earth look at what Liturgy is all about.
Its principles and features. 

 

 

 

SIGNS, SYMBOLS AND GESTURES

 

An opportunity to learn about the many symbols of the church,  their importance, meaning and origin.

 

 

 

 

DEVELOPMENT OF MUSIC IN THE LITURGY

 

A major in-depth look at the history of music in the celebration of the Eucharist for the earliest days of the Christian Church. Fully visual, using audio and video clips of music from all ages.

Practical training in church for  young people, along with an informal explanation of the meaning

of the role and of its function.

MINISTRY OF  WELCOME


An explanation of how important this ministry is and what its function should be.
How it can be done successfully.

Discussion and practical suggestions.

 

 

 

BREAD BAKING MINISTRY

This is a marvellous way of involving the community and understanding the true meaning of bread which is the heart of the Eucharist.

It also needs to be undertaken with great care and understanding.

The story of bread from the days of the Early Christian Church

What the Church Documents say.

Practical issues: recipes and method; who and when, (special occasions or weekly)
baking for numbers, integration into parish celebrations of the Eucharist, rotas.

If there is a kitchen available, we can bake together.

 


 

 

ENVIRONMENT


A visual exploration of the church environment; furniture, art, layout and symbols.
How church layout works for the liturgy of the Word and Eucharist.
What we should see, what is desirable.
The opportunity for each parish to look with fresh eyes at how its building works .

 

 

 

 

CELEBRATING THE EUCHARIST WITH YOUNG PEOPLE.


The structure of the Mass…its high and low points.
What should be emphasised.
Opportunities for pupil participation.
